ETHNICITY

Hi, it’s Deborah and Euzi

The Migration Observatory at the University of Oxford has gathered and examined results from various studies regarding the discrimination suffered by migrants in the UK. The findings show how ethnicity is the central element of labour market discrimination. Regardless of their immigration status, applicants who were born or whose parents were born in Pakistan, Bangladesh, sub-Saharan Africa or the Caribbean were less likely to receive a positive response from UK employers than applicants without an ethnic minority or migrant background. The research indicates that ethnic discrimination in the labour market occurs despite an absence of language problems and proof of UK educational credentials from applicants.
