The Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA) COVID-19 taskforce has revealed details from its investigation into businesses behaving unfairly amid the pandemic. It received approximately 21,000 complaints from consumers, with 4 out of 5 complaints relating to cancellations and refunds. The CMA also detailed that it has written to 187 firms about the complaints it has received relating to large price increases for personal hygiene and food products. The taskforce is committed to continuing to collect evidence, including about unjustifiable price rises further up the supply chain. The CMA intends to take enforcement action if there is evidence that businesses have breached competition or consumer protection law...
