Hi, it’s Deborah and Euzi
The Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) has called for evidence on video game loot boxes in order to ‘understand people’s positive and negative experiences of loot boxes in video games’ and discern whether they ‘may encourage or lead to problem gambling’. It is hoped that the findings will ‘give the government a clearer understanding of the size of the loot box and in-game purchases market in the UK, how it operates, and the impact of current protections such as parental controls and consumer regulations’. DCMS is keen to hear from players and their parents or guardians and is also seeking views from video games companies, academia, civil society and any other organisations interested in the issue.
The call for evidence closes at 11.59 pm on 22 November 2020.
