ENERGY EFFICIENT HOMES

Hi, it’s Deborah and Euzi If you have commercial rentals, you need to know that from 1 April 2023, every rented commercial property must have a minimum ‘E’ rating. Currently it’s only required for new leases and renewals. Future proposals are for this to rise to ‘C’ in April 2027 and ‘B’ in April 2030. The minimum ‘E’ rating on the Energy Performance Certificate has been a requirement for all privately rented residential properties in England and Wales since 2020. But this is planned to be raised to a minimum of ‘C’ from 31 December 2025 for new tenancies and from 31 December 2028 for all existing tenancies. However, it is currently just a proposal, with the Minimum Energy Performance of Buildings (No. 2) Bill - introduced in parliament in November 2021 - still only at the ‘second reading’ stage in the House of Commons.
