Hi, its Deborah and Euzi
I have just been contacted by a new client who had a comprehensive insurance, he drove his sister's car thinking he was covered under that Policy to drive any other person's car. He was pulled over by the Police and has ended up with a £300 fine and 6 points after having a 15 year unblemished driving record.
If you have fully comprehensive car insurance you might assume this covers you to drive someone else's car with the same level of protection – YOU WOULD BE WRONG IN YOUR ASSUMPTION!!!!
The trouble is, each insurer has its own set of rules when it comes to the definition of 'fully comprehensive', meaning the level of cover can vary depending upon who you're insured with.
And the chances are that your cover will actually drop down to third party only when driving another car, yes you did read that correctly.
You may even find your fully comprehensive policy DOESN'T COME WITH ANY COVER for driving someone else’s car, in which case you could be breaking the law by getting behind the wheel of another vehicle.
So it’s vital YOU check YOUR policy’s terms and conditions. Even if you’re happy with the small print, you could get caught out if your insurer updates its policies!!!!!!!, AND THEY CAN DO THIS AT ANY TIME.
SO BEFORE YOU DRIVE ANYONE ELSE'S CAR CHECK THAT YOUR INSURANCE COVERS YOU TO DRIVE THEIR CAR OR THEIR INSURANCE COVERS YOU TO DRIVE THEIR CAR. WHEN RENEWING YOUR POLICY MAKE SURE THAT YOU PUT IT IN WRITING THAT IF YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY UPDATES IT'S POLICY THEN YOU WANT TO BE INFORMED.
BETTER STILL GIVE YOU INSURANCE COMPANY A RING TODAY AND CHECK THAT YOUR COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE COVERS INCLUDES YOUR BEING ABLE TO DRIVE A THIRD PARTY'S VEHICLE

HAPPY DRIVING
